When talent meets opportunity
We are a collective of rising artists shaping the future of contemporary art. Founded on the principles of peer-driven growth and collaborative learning, we provide a space to build, belong, and become. Our community isn’t just a network. It’s a living ecosystem of co-created opportunities, shared resources, and mutual mentorship.
Upcoming collective exhibitions
uncommissioned: ed. 1 / playground of the invisible
A global exhibition of unauthorized artistic interventions, reclaiming public space through ephemeral art. More at uncommissioned.art.
Work in Progress: ed. 1 / Mexico City
One of the world's oldest markets transformed into a temporary city of artist studios and tiny art bars. More at workinprogress.mx.
We come together to make art, but also to make meaning. To test new rhythms of practice. To map a path where none existed.
This is where you find your footing, not by standing alone, but by leaning into the generous, messy, luminous work of collaboration. Art is not made in a vacuum. Neither are you. At Novo, collaboration isn’t an afterthought. It’s the method, the material, and the meaning. We blur the lines between author and audience, between artist and infrastructure, between the work and the world it inhabits.
Our artists and community
From vegetable markets turned open-air studios, to city streets quietly claimed with sculpture, sound, and movement — we’re exploring new ways for art to enter the world: unannounced, uncommodified, and unmistakably alive. Art made not for the public, but with it. Art shaped not by the market, but by the moment—and by each other. At Novo, we move through the unknown together. We hold space for doubt, for joy, for momentum. Because becoming isn’t something you do alone— it’s something we shape, side by side.
What our collective produces
International exhibition showcases
We produce group shows in collaboration with leading curators and galleries across Los Angeles, Mexico City, Berlin, and Shanghai. We specialize in one-off events that combine an unique venue, a curator with a fresh voice, and artists that can bring that vision to life.
Global art residences + travel
We host a 6 week residence in Shenzhen for 10 foreign and 10 Chinese artists to share studio space, with a leading Chinese gallery ready to represent our artists. We also organize 2 week Castaway Collective residences on our 42' Lagoon 42 sailing catamaran in the Caribbean and art week group travel.
Peer-driven growth
Our artists have a completely-private online community to share resources, collectively problem-solve, and learn from each other. Offline, they can coordinate studio visits.
Mutual accountability
We host weekly studio hours in which artists stream from their studio co-working together, as well as match artists with an accountability partner to share progress reports.
Expert roundtables
Monthly expert roundtables by industry insiders including top gallery owners, private collectors, museum curators on topics relevant to the caliber of our artists.
Critique working groups
Artists who share a common interest or medium self-organize into critique groups where they receive and give constructive criticism from peers.
Artwork sales
We identify public and corporate commissions, private collectors, art brokers, and gallerists who would be interested partners for our portfolio of artists.
On-demand studio support
We work on ad-hoc operational and logistical projects for artists, from shipping and customs to streamlining production operations.
Shared insider resources
Artist-curated directories for fellowships, grants, residencies, and grants means that we can share valuable knowledge across the community.
Online courses (coming soon)
Live lectures and project components taught by industry experts on topics like optimizing studio operations and artist branding.
Frequently asked questions
What is the profile of candidates you select for?
We are looking for artists with distinctive styles and voices, with strong technical skills in their chosen medium(s), whether through formal education or self-directed, and a body of work that shows consistency and direction. Artists who are curious about collaboration—not just as a tool, but as a methodology. Who want to stretch the boundaries of authorship, ownership, and visibility. Who value accountability, generosity, and critical exchange as much as ambition.
Is there a geographic limitation?
We consider artists globally, but have hubs of members in Los Angeles, Mexico City, and New York. Looking to develop a hub in Berlin.
Do you assist artists in marketing and selling their work?
Yes, for gallery-represented artists, we coordinate sales efforts in conjunction with their gallery. For independent artists, we market their work directly and also help sell their work during group exhibitions.
Is this an online or offline community?
We're both. Our digital community is run off Circle, which has forum, chat, video, and wiki functionalities, while our offline community is centered around collaborative exhibitions, residencies, and art week events.
Are there any costs involved?
Members pay a monthly due that covers the administrative cost of running the collective; the only additional costs are for personal travel expenses. We offer up to 100% financial aid so that finances are never an obstacle for artists to collaborate with us.
